ASTM A1061/A1061M-20
These test methods describe procedures for testing the mechanical properties of multi-wire steel prestressing strand. These test methods are intended for use in evaluating specific strand properties prescribed in specifications for multi-wire steel prestressing strand, but they do not quantify acceptance criteria specified in the applicable specification for the strand being tested.
RJ Peterman & Associates, Inc. is accredited to conduct ASTM A1061 tensile testing of multi-wire steel prestressing strand, including the determination of elastic modulus (MOE), yield strength, tensile strength, and ultimate elongation. We conduct the testing using a 120-kip-capacity Tinius Olsen test machine that was specially built for testing PC strand. Gripping of the strand is accomplished through special hydraulically-activated 10-inch-long grooved plates, which allows failure to occur in the middle of the tested length, away from the grip locations (refer to photo).
